Founder and CTO of Root

Dan is the cofounder and CTO of a startup named Root that specializes in using data science to identify and reward good drivers with more fair auto insurance rates.

Dan was instrumental in building Braintree into an amazingly successful startup in the late 2000s. It was founded in 2007 by Bryan Johnson and Dan joined as CTO in late 2008. They set out with the goal of differentiating the product by focusing on exceptional customer service, but some of the real magic came in the form of Braintree’s transparency about fees and a devotion to serving a targeted audience of developers. Dan joined in as the company transitioned from being a merchant services firm to a technology company and then worked there for a bit over 4 and a half years until it was acquired by PayPal in 2013 for $800m.

Dan’s joining us at Flight by joining our Founder’s Stories panel where we’ll dig deep into the challenges they faced and how they overcame them.
